"Autonomous X12, 2016, by Los Angeles-based visual artist James Georgopoulos. A sculptural representation of a driverless car's chassis, constructed from aerospace materials, cameras, and interactive screens. The chassis was built exclusively by robots for the Nissan Motorsports race team and delivered to the artist's Hawthorne studio, next to the Tesla design studio and SpaceX. All exterior panels were removed to expose the skeleton frame. The screens display a sixty-minute single-channel video of a drive down Sunset Boulevard from the East Side of Los Angeles to Santa Monica — a mundane passage the likes of which your car might take without you when self-driving technology is capable of programmable errands. The piece is the third iteration of Georgopoulos' series of automotive pieces embedded with film, each replicating the driving experience in real time. Materials: sheet metal, aluminum, glass, rubber, steel, plastic, aerospace composites, powder coating, and electronic components. Dimensions: 75 × 164 × 71.5 inches.
